Inside Watertight | Part 6: Tyler’s Story
In this edition of Inside Watertight, we caught up with Tyler Jackson, Project Administrator, to find out more about her role, her experience and life beyond work.
Helping People, Building Resilience
Tyler is a fresh face here, starting earlier this year in April. Before joining the team, Tyler worked in joinery and in retail in customer facing roles. She was looking for a career where she would, “have room to grow and progress professionally and this (flood resilience) industry was just the place for that.”
At Watertight, our team is driven by a shared goal: helping people and communities build a more resilient future. That mission resonates with Tyler. She said, “What I enjoy the most in my job is helping people and seeing the impact our work has.” Delivering that impact takes a great deal work behind the scenes.
Growing, Learning and Making a Difference
Tyler told us the amount of dedication required in this job would surprise you. She said, “You have to give it your all, start to finish, every day. Your home or building flooding is a life-changing event, we need to be able to help wherever possible and be there for one and other. I would say that dedication is what The Watertight Way means to me.”
The team is committed to resolving any problem that comes in as quickly as possible. Tyler recalled a recent call from a woman whose flood front door lock broke. She said, “Feeling that your home is not secure while you are trying to sleep or go about your day can be so panicking for people. I passed on the problem, and our team had someone out to her that day! You can rely on everyone here to fix any issue you bring them.”
Outside of Work…
Alongside working at Watertight full-time, Tyler is studying Marketing and Bookkeeping at Belfast Met – an achievement that both she and the team are proud of. Upskilling and developing your own knowledge is so important in such a fast-paced and quickly growing industry and is easier said than done. Tyler explains, “Getting this qualification will broaden my knowledge and will create more opportunities for my professional development.”
When Tyler isn’t working away or studying for her qualification, she enjoys nature walks and painting at home. She told us, “Never underestimate how good a bit of fresh air is for you. Walking along the seaside or in a big forest is such a distraction away from the daily work.” Cosied up at home, creating pastel-coloured paintings helps her “properly relax and enjoy the peace”.
