Inside Watertight | Part 4: David’s story

David Christie on experience, standards and doing the right thing:

With almost seven years at Watertight, Technical Director David Christie has seen the business - and the wider PFR industry - evolve significantly.

“It’s flown by,” he says, but the impact of that time is clear.

No such thing as a standard solution

David’s role is as varied as the projects Watertight delivers. From working across Environment Agency, Build Back Better or local authority schemes to managing technical standards, his focus is on ensuring every solution is right for the property - and the person - in front of him.

“There’s no one-size-fits-all. Every home, every situation is different, and that’s what makes the work interesting.”

It’s this attention to detail and tailored approach that underpins everything David does.

Building trust through delivery

Ask David what he’s most proud of, and it’s not just the projects themselves, but it’s the relationships that come with them. Confirms David: “I’m proud of the reputation we’ve built: the repeat work, the trust we have from our clients. It’s about being reliable, being thorough and doing what you say you’re going to do.”

From referrals to new projects to long-standing partnerships, that trust has been earned through consistent delivery and a strong focus on doing things properly.

What ‘The Watertight Way’ really means

For David, the Watertight Way comes down to a simple principle: “Doing the right thing.” That means taking the time to understand each property and each homeowner and making sure they are supported throughout the process.

Explains David: “It’s about care, attention to detail and making sure people are informed every step of the way.”

Internally, it’s also about culture. “There’s a lot of trust in the team. You’re given the space to try things, to learn and not to be afraid of making mistakes. It’s a very supportive culture here.”

That openness creates an environment where people can grow and where ideas can move quickly.

Outside of work…

Life outside work is busy and largely revolves around family. With two boys, including a son with autism, David’s time is very much centred at home.

When he does get a bit of time to himself, he enjoys target shooting at club level - something that has taken him further than most hobbies. In fact, it led to competing at a high level, including involvement around the 2014 Commonwealth Games - an experience that brought professional-level training, support teams, and even a memorable moment at the closing ceremony.

This is a great example of the focus and dedication David brings - whether that’s outside of work or in the role he plays here at Watertight.

David is a truly dedicated member of the team.
