Inside Watertight | Part 3: Danielle’s story

Behind every successful project is a strong financial backbone and here at Watertight, Danielle Campbell plays a key role in making that happen.

As Financial Controller and part of the senior leadership team, she’s been with the business for almost four years, helping to guide decision-making through clear, accurate financial insight.

Turning numbers into decisions

Danielle’s role is all about visibility and control - from overseeing the finance team to producing detailed reporting and analysis. She helps ensure the business stays on track, monitoring cash flow, reviewing project performance and making sure everything aligns with forecasts and expectations.

But for Danielle, it’s not just about the numbers: “I like the autonomy and variety - being able to take something from start to finish, like the management accounts, and really own it.”

That sense of ownership, combined with the trust placed in her by the senior leadership team, is a big part of what makes the role rewarding.

Confirms Danielle: “What I love most about working at Watertight is the trust and accountability to lead the finance function as a strategic partner to the business. Being part of an organisation that plays a vital role in better protecting schools, homes, and businesses from flooding is incredibly rewarding.

“Seeing the company scale rapidly, strengthening financial foundations along the way, and watching the team grow gives me a real sense of pride; it reinforces my drive to play a key role in shaping Watertight’s long-term success.”

Hard work that pays off

One of Danielle’s proudest achievements came before she even joined Watertight; passing all of her chartered accountant exams first time, which is no small feat.

Explains Danielle: “The late nights, the discipline, the sacrifices - anyone who’s done it knows what it takes.”

Five years of commitment and hard work went into getting there and it’s something that still shapes her mindset today.

“It’s made me believe you really can achieve anything you put your mind to.”

A people-first approach

For Danielle, ‘The Watertight Way’ is about more than processes or performance but instead it is about people.

“It guides every decision we make: combining technical excellence with a people-first approach and real integrity.”

That comes through not just internally, but in how the team supports customers too.

“We always remind ourselves that we’re here to help people. Sometimes they’ve lost their homes, their belongings, they’re going through a really difficult time. It’s important they feel heard and supported.”

It’s that perspective that sets the tone across the business.

Outside of work…

When she switches off, Danielle enjoys keeping active and spending time with family and friends, often with her two Cockapoos in tow. In fact, her love of dogs has turned into something of a side project.

Explains Danielle: “I actually run a Cockapoo meet-up group!  We meet at the beach or the park and let the dogs run around while we have a chat.”

And if there’s a dancefloor nearby?

“I’m usually the first one up!”
