Inside Watertight | Part 5: Madonna’s story

As Watertight continues to deliver projects across the country, our project management team plays an important role in keeping everything moving behind the scenes.

We caught up with Assistant Project Manager Madonna Asabor, who joined Watertight in April, to find out more about her role and what attracted her to the flood resilience sector:

Tell us a little about your background and what brought you to Watertight.

“I have always worked within construction, but property flood resilience was a completely new area for me. That was one of the things that appealed to me – I like learning new things and taking on a fresh challenge.

This is also my first project management role. When I saw the position advertised, I got the impression that Watertight was open to taking on people who were willing to learn and develop, which encouraged me to apply.

Flood resilience is quite a specialist part of the construction industry, so there has been plenty to learn, but I have really enjoyed getting to understand it.”

What does your role involve?

“My role is all about helping projects progress and making sure the teams have what they need to keep everything on track.

A typical day can involve contacting homeowners to confirm project details, checking that orders have been fulfilled and making sure our stock lists are accurate and up to date. It is a varied role, with lots of different elements that need to come together at the right time.

I am mainly office-based, but I also visit sites when we are starting a new project.”

What do you enjoy most about the role?

“I really enjoy the balance between office work and getting out on site. It is nice to meet homeowners, speak with clients and see the properties and projects we are working on. Having that variety keeps the role interesting - there is always something new to learn or a different challenge to work through.”

What does the ‘Watertight Way’ mean to you?

“One of the first things I noticed when I joined was how well everybody gets along. It is a friendly working environment, without unnecessary pressure. You are trusted to get on with your job and given a good level of independence, but you also know that people are always there to help when you need them.

For me, the Watertight Way is about that combination of trust, support and teamwork.”

What do you enjoy doing outside work?

“I enjoy anything creative, particularly painting, crochet and other arts and crafts. I also enjoy spending time with my family.”
